FL: The challenge of elderly sex offenders

By the time deputies arrested ___ ___ ___ for failing to register as a sexual predator, he had built up a 10-year record of consistent registration in Marion County.

That’s 42 check-ins, as his attorneys and his friends pointed out at a sentencing hearing in June. When it came to No. 43, ____, 72, who has since been diagnosed with early stages of dementia, says that he simply forgot.

“My only crime, your honor, is that I have become old and forgetful,” he told Circuit Judge Robert Hodges that day. Full Article

In my opinion, to strive to be fair is a task for those who value humanity.

Here’s that word being used again and again.

“These men in their 70s 80s or 90s — they’re no longer a threat,” Rodarm said. “They’re still being punished for a crime where they’ve already paid their debt to society. It’s in nobody’s best interest to keep them in custody.”

Everyone with a brain, knows that the “Registry” is PUNISHMENT.

I’d be more concerned with a person that likes to start fires, but no one knows who they are.

Sorry that this happened to you. That being said, most people on this registry are not rapists. If you didn’t know your attacker, know that over 95% of victims know their offender.
Registry is a form of punishment. Not regulatory. If a person is so hated as a person as I and many, then they should be adjudicated as such. Punishment is a sentence. A lifelong sentence is lifelong punishment.

I got mugged decades ago and was violently attacked. It just never crossed my mind that all muggers need to be regulated for life. He got caught and was sent to prison and I hope that he got some help and changed. No politicians wrote laws with my name, no press wrote about my crime and I never spoke much about it afterwards. Can you imagine if I ran around decades later letting this crime consume me? What would you think if I told you I couldn’t ever get my life back on track after being a victim of a violent mugging? I also should add at NO point did I wish ill on my attacker.

Have you noticed these sex offender laws bring out the absolute worse in some people? I suppose these people always had something wrong with them and feel comfortable in comforting the sadistic nature of the life long victim that will never feel complete or duly compensated. No worry or concern that the registry includes people with misdemeanors and or decades of being offense free or a fair amount of children on this list almost totaling a million people now. The only words I can think of to define going after elderly and often dying human beings with no concern is sadistic anarcist. The people that continue escalating this are sadistic in nature and desire totally anarchy while teaching children that watch this unfold that being inhuman is good. I am amazed judges sit and watch this unfold and don’t realize at some point this madness has to stop. Do we as a country really want some 80 year old dying in the streets because he/she committed a misdemeanor decades ago but now can’t get into a nursing home or qualify for HUD housing? The sane and responsible adults have to intervene and silence the nuts so they don’t have to explain why the old 80 year old is dying in the streets to the five year old…. Well you see honey, that bad man committed a crime twenty years ago and has no place to go because of his actions. Even though he has been a law abiding citizen for twenty years we are going to get him. Let that sink in…..
